It's also true that it should be more future proof but I think the day when the average PC can't even run Adobe's 64-bit plugin is very distant. But having a virtualbox option for those that just want to view the occational old flash every now and then without jumping through hoops is not a bad idea. Not good for performance and wait times, I'd much rather be able to recommend a good browser that I know will be dependable after 2020. I sure wish Adobe open-source the display plugin now that they are abandoning it.Īppreciate the virtualbox suggestion. Leveraging privacy and usability, Waterfox enables users to add customizations and optimize their time on browser-based applications while protecting their online activity. But I get that that is way, way too much work for something they have now successfully pushed out of mainstream. TL DR: Waterfox delivers a balanced browsing experience for users to navigate the web with peace of mind. The swf file format specification is open, ActionScript 1/2/3 as well. The dream is for swf to be interpreted and rendered by the browser itself, just like how a browser reads and displays a jpg. Requirements There are minimum system requirements for running this browser. On mobile platforms, it seems that Waterfox was available on Android, but appears that development has since stalled. Removing all internet and disk access is preferrable to dropping flash completely, over 80% of all swfs ever created would still work. Waterfox is available on Windows, macOS, and specified Linux distros. Flash's insecurity is exaggerated and I'm of the opinion it sould have been sandboxed properly by browsers instead of having companies decide for us that we don't want it anymore. The biggest change is to the user interface, which has been completely redesigned with a far more modern look. Let's take a quick look at what's new in Silver Efex Pro 3. That actually makes it around $50 less for the full suite than Silver Efex Pro 1 or 2 used to cost standalone. The overall Nik Collection 4 is priced at $149 for new customers, with upgrades available to existing customers for $79. (And as of the recently-released Nik Collection 4 version 4.2, this includes support for Adobe Photoshop running natively on Apple M1 devices.) You can also apply color filters, reduce haze and finish your creations with toning, vignetting, borders and more.Įven at its default 'neutral' setting, Silver Efex Pro's rendering is noticeably different to that of a simple grayscale conversion in Photoshop.Ĭlick here for the full-sized Silver Efex image, here for Photoshop grayscale or here for full color.Īvailable immediately as part of the Nik Collection 4 bundle, Silver Efex Pro 3 can function either standalone or as a plugin for Photoshop, Lightroom and other compatible apps on both Windows 8.1+ or macOS 10.14+. Silver Efex allows you to make a wide range of adjustments to brightness, contrast, structure and tonality, either globally or locally using control points. For less experienced users, a generous selection of presets are provided to get you started with minimal effort. It allows users to simulate the look of specific real-world film types, manually tuning their color sensitivity and grain with an incredible amount of flexibility and precision. Nik Silver Efex Pro 3 is a black-and-white conversion tool that goes far further than the grayscale or black-and-white tools built into Adobe Photoshop. Introduction | What's new | Interface | Conclusion For this review, though, we'd like to take a closer look at just one of the suite's most useful components, Silver Efex Pro 3. At the time, we looked at the overall suite with a focus on what was new. A few months ago we found a lot to like in the latest iteration of the Nik Collection, a suite of eight image processing tools initially developed by Nik Software and these days owned by French software company DxO. Naturally, I didn’t allow Driver Updater to change that particular file. Incidentally, it’s worth checking the details of each driver, because when tested, it flagged an Nvidia High Definition driver for update, yet the update it proposed was older than my existing driver. Alternatively, there’s a large green button at the bottom of the interface that updates all the drivers with a single click. You then have the option to update the driver or click to ignore it. For example, the Diagnostics tab will highlight any out-of-date drivers, the display gives very concise details of what they are, the date of the current driver and the date of the new suggested driver. Although fairly obvious by their descriptions, there are other options to consider. The interface is nice and clean, with tabs down the left-hand side listing the options you have available they include a System Overview, Diagnostics, Action Centre, Backup and Restore. This again only takes a few seconds, before you’re presented with a list of outdated drivers. The program is quite small and takes just a few seconds to install, after which it will automatically scan your system for outdated drivers. Well, this latest product from Auslogics is said to overcome these problems by keeping your system device drivers up to date. Yet how many times have you installed a device only to find that it doesn’t work, or perhaps if it does, then something else in your system doesn’t work anymore? Some of these require the driver to be installed before you add the device, whereas others need the device installed first. Hardware, however, is a different animal altogether, because most devices need a device driver loaded before they will work. Therefore, these selected apps have free, freemium, or premium options to scale up the app's features and accessibility, all while offering generous trial periods for the full version. The price and affordability of an app will often be a deciding factor, too, especially for a beginner looking to get started. I then ran the photo through both Topaz Gigapixel AI and Adobe Photoshop’s “Preserve Details 2.0″ to produce two 24×48” images (2x), then saved each jpeg at maximum quality, which is what I would normally send to the printer. I renamed my image to “The Other Photographer” to avoid accidentally overwriting anything. If I did any minor resampling, I don’t recall, but I typically only resample before emitting a print jpeg, and so when working with the original Photoshop file, none of my images should ever be resampled. This print currently lives on my wall as a 12×24, which is probably the native resolution after cropping. I took this photo, “The Photographer” on a trip to Iceland in 2015, at the popular black sand dunes in Stokksnes overlooking the Vestrahorn mountain range, using a Nikon D810 and a Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 at f/5.6. Given how much Topaz products have been hyped lately, it seemed like a worthy endeavor to compare Gigapixel AI to Photoshop’s “Preserve Details 2.0” upscaler. I have several 2:1 cropped photos with a native-ish resolution of 12×24″, and wanted to see if Gigapixel was up to the task of handling a 24×48″ enlargement. I purchased Topaz Gigapixel AI as part of a bundle last year, but haven’t had much need to do enlargements until recently. V-Ray Enmesh generates repeating surface geometry without instancing “The grass in Enscape can be replaced by V-Ray Fur, but this needs to be done by the V-Ray artist.” V-Ray equivalents have more options … and the V-Ray user will usually want to adjust these to their liking. “Nearly everything that can convert from Enscape to V-Ray does so without user intervention. Updated 5 October 2022: We asked Chaos if there is anything in an Enscape scene that isn’t converted on import to V-Ray. or just the key ones.Ĭhaos pitches the change as making it easier to develop the initial look of a scene inside Enscape, then transfer it to V-Ray to take it to the “highest possible level of photorealism” The update adds support for “Enscape materials, 3D models and lights” in V-Ray – there isn’t a list in the release notes, so we aren’t sure if all Enscape materials and light types are supported. The biggest change in V-Ray 6 for SketchUp is interoperability with Enscape, the increasingly popular real-time architectural rendering software with whose developer Chaos merged earlier this year. The new version was released alongside that of V-Ray 6 for Rhino, which has similar new features.Ĭompatibility with Enscape reduces the need to rebuild scenes when moving between renderers Other new features include geometry replication system Enmesh, procedural clouds in V-Ray Sky, the option to pause and resume renderering, and support for the V-Ray Distance texture and ACEScg colour space. The update makes the SketchUp edition of the renderer compatible with real-time architectural visualisation tool Enscape, making it possible to render Enscape materials, models and lights in V-Ray.
